These materials are fabricated in 48 inch long sheets, in widths from 8 to 24 inches wide, depending on the material involved. The bonding material (0.0003-inch maximum) between the layers of metal is so secure that the shim looks and behaves like solid metal. In use, the laminations are simply peeled off with a knife blade, one at a time, right on the assembly line. With a minimum of experience, an assembler becomes adept at removing individual laminations as required.
